About Ababhash

It was May 2002, Ababhash, a Kolkata-based journal started its journey in the publishing world with a book entitled ‘Gora and Binoy’.

Ababhash is a journal almost entirely devoted to serious essays and learned articles with occasional contributions from writers on fictions and poetry. There is a very clear line of demarcation between the activities of big publishing houses absolutely propelled by commercial interest and the purpose of journals like Ababhash which actually belong to the little magazine movement searching for an alternative space of cultural practice and ideological resistance.

Till now, Ababhash published sixty-five books. Some valuable books have been published in association with the Department of Women’s Studies, Jadavpur University.

We sincerely consider the proposal coming from research groups and centers of academic excellence in the field of publication. We have plans to reprint some books that are not currently available, publish some English titles and translations.

Our strength lies in the response of the readers who lend their support to our ventures and inspire us to explore the unchartered territories of Bengali literature.
